I created the account Unpleasant Scripts at some point in the past two years, with the purpose of handwriting Shakespearean-era insults. After talking myself out of the idea, the account sat silently, gathering virtual dust.
In the past month or so, I started writing everything I wrote in cursive, including work notes. Long story short, we had to learn cursive in elementary school, and I think it’s a shame that it’s an art taken for granted. Within a week, there was significant progress, and now I want to document that progress.
Why the classics?
Well, I asked Claude if there would be any issues with copyright, if I were to practice and blog about my progress by using any of my favorite books, and was promptly informed that I’m only able to use materials written before 1929, as those are in public domain and free to use.
Upon reading the list, I realized I have never read anything by Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, and the list goes on and on. And then there are others that I have read, like Shakespeare and Lewis Carroll, that I would like to re-read. The idea pretty much wrote itself from that point.
I have very strong opinions about AI, but that’s a story for another time.
